Description |
B&W photo showing a group of women filling cans with fruit. A wooden lug box in the foreground is labeled "U.S. Gov't Property". A paper attached to the back of photo reads "Working outside on the cannery porch, Mrs. M.A. Ferguson tires of her improvised stool, an upturned apricot lug. The shiny dishpanfuls of peeled and seeded 'cots have to be trucked to the processing equipment from the porch, as the mechanical conveyor system used inside, could not be made to reach out here. Mrs. Ferguson is paid according to the number of lugs she peels in a day's time - yet like her sister member-workers, she is unhurried, and eats perhaps a good sized peck of the fruit over which she is working.
